Entertainment evolves to fit any number of situations, from an individual who selects a personal entertainment from a vast array of pre-recorded products; a dinner party adapted for two; a large banquet or any size and type of social gathering, with music and dance incorporated; to performances for thousands. While the concept of entertainment is generally associated with amusement and fun, many entertainments have serious purposes such as ceremony, celebration, religious festival, satire or drama. The word “entertainment” derives from the Latin intertenere, derived from the Indo-European root ten.
